For those of you going to Alaska and starting the trip anywhere EAST of the Mississippi River, there is literally a direct route to the start of the Alaskan Highway (formerly the ALCAN Highway) in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. There are other routes, of course, but from Minot, ND to Dawson Creek, shown here is the most direct route.
Once you get on the Alaskan Highway, you will follow it all the way into Tok, Alaska and there, you will have to make a decision. Do you go to Fairbanks, Valdez, or Anchorage? In my “RVing to Alaska” book and seminars, I always suggest going to Fairbanks first as it is a great starting place to meander down through this great state. Enjoy the trip.
