This book is about driving or towing an RV. You have to drive the RV or drive the vehicle that tows the RV to whatever destination. Every RV involves driving—you just cannot avoid or escape this aspect of RVing.
So, you will be forced to suddenly control and maneuver a large vehicle. You could be driving a 45-foot-long RV and towing a Hummer (or any large vehicle). Your overall length—going down the highway (or through a crowded Walmart parking lot)—could be close to 70-feet-long! You instantly become a “big rig.”
Let me be blunt here… To assume you know all about driving a big rig safely just because you have driven a gazillion miles in a car/pickup, is a really stupid mistake! Sorry if I have hurt your tender feelings but that’s the way it is. I’m willing to go out on a limb here and say that you likely don’t even know how to set your mirrors correctly.
There are hints and tricks to driving a big or even a medium-sized RV efficiently, effectively, and safely that you need to know. You need to learn the maneuverability and driving limitations of YOUR RV so you can take it safely down the highway, tuck it into a rather small campsite or maneuver through a crowded parking lot. So, for you to be able do that, I have three strong recommendations…
A. Read this information and try the exercises. You will have fun, learn things about your RV that you did not know, become more knowledgeable, and be able to maneuver your RV in ways not possible before now. Can’t hurt!
B. Once you learn how to back-up your RV, those pesky RVers in the campground won’t make fun of you because you won’t be providing them entertainment any longer while trying to back in.
C. Get some professional driving instruction. Some is free. Some will cost. Both are great.
This is NOT a “how to drive” booklet. It is a “how to manipulate your RV” and “learn its limitations” booklet.
Here’s how and why…
